Bob Tolputt
Originals & Covers Bass Player from Auckland
Hey, I'm Bob.
I've just moved to Auckland from Tasmania, Australia. Apart from my partner, I don't know a single person here. Haha
I've been gigging regularly, mostly covers, for 25 years.
I taught bass and band skills at the University of Tasmania for a few years but I'm definitely not a jazz guy. I'd rather play root notes.
Most of my regular gigging has been rock or pop based but have played most genres other than country (No, I haven't been avoiding it!) and more technical metal (mostly cause my left hand doesn't move fast enough). I'm a sucker for good female fronted pop/dance. Really digging Dua Lipa of late and have been enjoying Calvin Harris' stuff.
I love making new sounds and have an addiction to effects pedals. A friend of mine once said I was a bassist and effect pedalist - I kind of dig that.
I'm passionate about education and passing on any knowledge I might have if I think it might help someone or at least give them something to think about.
I have a Linktree: www.linktr.ee/bobtolputt . There's a bunch of links to examples of me playing in various groups over the years. It's still a work in progress as there's a lot missing but it will give you an idea of what I do.
There's also a link to a Spotify playlist of random stuff I like. That might help you understand what goes on inside my head and the wide variety of music I enjoy. Trying to keep a list of influences to just 3 is pretty much impossible when you listen to such a range of stuff!
My partner and I are both pretty social people so hopefully I might get to meet some people and get involved in the scene.
