Alan Bowen

I am a mathematics teacher but have always also enjoyed performing, recording and composing. I play bass, guitar, drums, percussion and sing. I thoroughly enjoy playing my homemade guitar (shown in my profile pic). It's based on the Chet Atkins Gibson solid body guitar which was first made in approx.1983. Mine differs in that it has a classical spruce guitar top with bracing and a solid maple back. I enjoy composing but also playing popular and well-known songs. I enjoy most genres but not rap and heavy metal. One of my highlights was being part of an ensemble that performed the music on stage for a Spanish dance show. It was an honour and a privilege to play with world-class musicians including a world renowned flamenco guitarist. That was very special. Looking forward though, I would like to connect with one or two musicians in Howick and start performing again. I miss the joy that live music brings.
