Musician Wanted
(Drummer)
I'm putting together a new original band in
Dunedin and looking for a drummer who genuinely
digs ska, rocksteady, reggae and two-tone.
The songs are already written, and I'm looking for
the right drummer to bring them to life, develop
the arrangements, and help shape the band's sound
as we move towards recording and playing live.
Influences include:
Toots & the Maytals • Desmond Dekker • The Wailers • Peter Tosh • Culture • The Beat • The Selecter • Herbs • Sublime • The Skints • The Interrupters • Asian Dub Foundation
The music sits somewhere between rocksteady,
roots reggae, ska, two-tone and punk, with
room to pull from other influences too.
Looking for someone who:
-Has solid timing and a strong feel for reggae/ska grooves
-Understands dynamics, space and the
importance of the bass-and-drum relationship
-Can play with feel rather than overplay
-Is interested in original music and
contributing musically to arrangements
-Is reliable and keen to rehearse regularly
-Wants to record and play live
-Is versatile and comfortable playing different styles.
The goal is to build a tight, hardworking band around
the original material, while also being versatile enough
to take on covers, gigs and other paid work. Being able to
move comfortably between styles is a big plus.
You don't need to be a flashy drummer — groove, feel,
musicality and versatility are more important than chops.
I'm keen to get together for a jam, see if we click
musically, and start working through the existing songs.
Dunedin-based. Original material. Looking to build a proper working band.
If this sounds like your thing, flick me a message
with a bit about yourself, what you've been playing,
and any recordings/videos you have.
