Bass Player Wanted — American Roots Band
We're an all-acoustic roots repertoire band built around instruments like banjo, mandolin, guitar, and fiddle, performing traditional and classic American roots songs. With an interest in string-band traditions, our material spans bluegrass, old-time, country-blues, folk, traditional country, narrative story-songs, and singer-songwriter material. We are interested in American roots music, but we are also open to some modern shading and the occasional left-field choice of song reworked through a string-band lens.
We're looking for a bass player — acoustic (upright) or electric — to join a group of musicians who've known each other and played together for a few years, across a few different projects. You don't need to be a bluegrass meister, but you should have an interest in this kind of music, feel comfortable locking in with acoustic instrumentation, and be able to adapt your playing to serve the song — whether that's a faster bluegrass number, a slower country waltz or ballad, or something a little more left-field. Singing, especially harmony, is a bonus, but not essential.
We rehearse weekly within reason and are based across the Wellington region. If you're in Wellington city, the Hutt Valley, Porirua, Kapiti, Horowhenua, or the Wairarapa and are willing to travel to rehearsals and gigs, I'd be happy to hear from you. We aim to play live a few times a year — maybe roughly every 2-3 months — around the lower North Island, and maybe occasionally further afield (if we were all interested at the time).
We're looking for people with a genuine interest in American roots music — people who are actively listening to this kind of music, want to dig deeper into it, and want to play it.
If that sounds like you, hit the message link below and I'll get back to you. Thanks.
