**Bass Player Wanted – Tony Painting and the Power**
Tony Painting and the Power are looking for a committed bass player for a raw blues-rock trio based in Auckland.
We play stripped-back, groove-heavy blues-rock: 12-bars, shuffles, rockers, ballads, dynamics, space, feel, and strong pocket. It’s not rocket science, but it has to groove properly. The bass and drums need to lock in hard and drive the band.
We’re looking for someone who:
* Is committed to being part of a working trio
* Is available for weekly rehearsals and around 3–4 paid gigs per month
* Has reliable gear, transport, and gigging experience
* Comes prepared and understands the difference between practice and rehearsal
* Can lock in with the drums and support the song without overplaying
* Is willing to contribute to “our” versions of songs, not just copy recordings note-for-note
* Has the right attitude: reliable, relaxed, respectful, and easy to work with
* Is drug-free and not into heavy drinking or drama around rehearsals/gigs
* Can sing backing vocals — bonus, but not essential
Age and gender do not matter. Attitude, ability, feel, reliability, and commitment do.
For auditions, we’ll send you 3–5 of our own rehearsal/live recordings to prepare from. We want you to learn **our arrangements**, not just the original versions. That means paying attention to feel, groove, stops, endings, dynamics, and how the trio breathes.
One of the audition songs will be a shuffle, because the bass/drums pocket is a big part of this band’s sound. We’re looking for someone who can come in prepared, lock in with the drums, and make the band feel better straight away.
We’re not looking for a casual jam or someone learning the material in the room. We’re looking for a gig-ready player who listens, prepares, turns up reliably, and wants to be part of a working band.
Interested? Send us a message with a bit about your experience, gear, transport, availability, and ideally some audio/video of your playing.
