American Roots Music Band - Bass Player Wanted
We're an all-acoustic roots band - banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, etc. - playing traditional and classic American songs: bluegrass, old-time, country blues, folk, traditional country, story-songs, and singer-songwriter material. We stick close to the string-band tradition, but we are also open to some modern shading, and the occasional unexpected choice of (reworked) song.
This is more a passion project rather than a business - though we won't say no if the occasional paid gig comes along.
We're looking for a bass player - upright or electric - to join a group of musicians who've played together across a few projects for years. You don't need to be an experienced bluegrass player, but you should feel at home locking in with acoustic instrumentation and adapting your playing to serve the song, whether it ends up being a fast bluegrass number, a stomping country-blues, a slow ballad or country waltz, or something a little left-field. Mostly we get together at someone's place to work on our playing and singing and we occasionally take it live too.
Singing - especially harmony - is a bonus, not a requirement.
We meet weekly, within reason, and are based across the Wellington region - the city, Hutt Valley, Porirua, Kapiti, Horowhenua, or the Wairarapa. If you're willing to travel to rehearsals and the occasional gig, we'd be happy to hear from you. We plan to play live maybe every 2-3 months, mostly around the lower North Island (maybe sometimes further if everyone's keen).
If you're already exploring this kind of music and want to play it, get in touch below and I'll get back to you. Thanks.
