I am a middle aged male (born 1971 - you do the maths- I can't find my abacus) who has been playing drums and percussion for about 35 years. I primarily enjoy playing rock / pop / funk and reggae but also enjoy listening to a wide range of music styles.
My main focus with any song is to serve the song in terms of arrangements and also to get a solid groove going.
I play a Gretsch Catalina 7-piece kit, but depending on venue / gig / music style, I modify the toms to suit. I use a mixture of different sized Paiste, and Zildjian cymbals, again depending on genre, venue etc. I also have a variety of percussion items that I attach to my kit including an electronic trigger pad.
I have been using Shure IEM's (In Ear Monitors) for the past 12 months which has been great in terms of ear protection but also being able to clearly hear each instrument / notes etc. However, I'm also happy to not use them, depending on volume of band.
