Originals & Covers Musician from New Plymouth
6 YEARS VETERAN

Kia Ora. My name is Turama, but everyone calls me T
I am 24 years old and I live in New Plymouth. I come from a musical family. Mum and Dad are musicians and travelled around New Zealand giging in pubs and festivals in the 90s. My dad, Jack Cassidy, is a well known local musician around Taranaki and even around Taumarunui in the 70s and is a respected songwriter, traits that he passed on to me. Mum was a singer and was in many bands throughout the 90s and even had the effort to travel around in her band whilst she was carrying me. I was brought up going to their band practices and gigs, but it wasn't until I was 9, where my dad formed our family band 'Inna Chyld'. Our band formed in 2003 and was made up of my sibblings and I. I was the eldest, playing guitar, my sister was the keyboardist, my brother was the drummer and our youngest was the lead vocalist. We were a band playing original content and covers. As we got older, dad joined in our band. He took the guitar off me and gave me a bass instead. From there, I was obsessed with the bass guitar. Our band had a lot of experience and success during the years. We did endless school galas, school assemblies, school rockquests (where we made the regionals and won the lyric award in 2010) and festivals around Taranaki. Our biggest accomplishment however was at the 2007 Parihaka International Peace Festival where we opened the entire 3 day event on the main stage. Artists and bands at the event included Dave Dobbyn, Kora, Che Fu and a lot more international acts from around the world, so opening the even for these people was a huge buzz and it's something we will never forget.
Personally, I love playing any genre except reggae (a rarity among maori musicians, I know) I do love playing funk and rock the most, but I also would like to play with synthesisers.
If you're looking for a bass player or guitarist, I'm your man
Thanks!
