Jonathan Tan is 25 years old and a graduate of New Zealand School of Music where he studied Jazz Performance Trombone and was a recipient of both the Massey University High Achievers Scholarship in Arts and a Bonded Merit Scholarship for Achievement in Jazz Performance. Jonathan currently enjoys performing, touring and recording as a freelance trombonist, and teaching brass and tutoring bands both privately and at a number of Auckland schools.

Jonathan Tan is currently a regular member of a number of prominent projects including the Auckland Jazz Orchestra, Katchafire, and Tahuna Breaks. He has also featured with a number of other NZ acts including the Auckland Neophonic Jazz Orchestra (with Tim Beveridge), Queen City Big Band, Rodger Fox Big Band, Tuxedo Swing Orchestra, Avalanche City (at the VNZMA 2011), Aaradhna, The Managers, Farmer Pimp, Miho Wada, Macombee & The Absolute Truth, Foundation, Yebiisu, Batucada Sound Machine, Sons of Zion, and dDub.

Jonathan also enjoys musical theatre and has performed in pit orchestras and show bands for productions of Chicago, Cabaret, The Full Monty, The Producers, Seussical, Spamalot, as well as three productions of both Les Miserables and West Side Story. Most recently, Jonathan was part of the show band in Auckland Theatre Company's production of Jesus Christ Superstar which ran from October to December in 2015.

Jonathan has performed at many prominent local festivals including the Auckland Big Day Out (2010), BW Summer Festival (2013), Homegrown (2014), the Kingsland Festival (2011), Parachute (2010, 2011), Prana New Years Festival (2010-2011, 2011 - 2012, 2012 - 2013), Raggamuffin (2011, 2012), and Splore (2012).
